Sunrise babymoon photos by Orange Beach maternity photographer Michelle Hatcher

Okay guys… this one is to-die-for.

Planning our sunrise babymoon session

Ashlon contacted me with the simplest vision- sunrise babymoon photos. I honestly love when a client’s ideas for the session are limited, because that gives us so much more room for creativity. Ashlon sent me one inspiration photo lol, mentioned neutral colors and a change into a bathing suit (I was giddy over that), and truly just wanted to celebrate the upcoming birth of their first child. Ashlon was open to locations and you can probably already tell, this Orange Beach maternity photographer picked her favorite sunrise location again! I’ve already talked about how much I love shooting at Alabama Point at sunrise- I’ve shot some of my all-time favorite work there, so we decided to go for it and my gosh was it the perfect morning.

I’ve even got a few links to share from her outfits!

Her dress from Hill House is no longer available in this specific print but here’s a close contender:

Romantic Dress

Gauzy White Top

Crochet cover-up

What makes a great session, even BETTER?

Being comfortable and having fun!

The love and excitement in these two was palpable, making my job easy-peasy even though they were a little nervous at first. We got started and in minutes they were feeling much more comfortable, laughing as we watched the sun rise over the dunes. With the jitters out we were able to have such a GOOD time! I offered lots of fun prompts to get them interacting- dancing, running, kissing, singing- but very little posing. The dream sunrise babymoon photos. One of my recurring photographer statements is “It feels stupid but I promise it looks really cute.” They never batted an eye and really let loose, just enjoying this fun experience with each other. As your Orange Beach maternity photographer I will probably make you do weird things at 6am, but promise it will be worth it. When else, if ever, will you dance around in the sand with your lover as the sun rises?

The vision from an Orange Beach maternity photographer

Once I’d gotten a feel for these two and the boats were rolling out into the Gulf behind us, I was thinking nothing but documentary style, cinematic vibes for the rest of the session. The stark contrast between the deep blue/green water and the actors, the boats bobbing in the water, birds flying overhead- I already could have sworn I was in a movie. Direct lighting is becoming more common in my work and I especially love the look of it at sunrise, so I worried less about shadows and more about their connection.

I mean truly, we were creating memories, not just doing a photography session. I sat back and admired them in these moments- some of their last before becoming mom and dad, and was so thankful just to be a part of it. If I’ve ever questioned whether I’m in the right profession, shoots like this remind me it’s exactly where I should be.

Before I shed anymore tears over these sunrise babymoon photos, make sure to scroll through to see ALL the beautiful photos we created!

Fall is finally near and that means that the temperatures will be so much more bearable for expecting mommas. If you’re not an early bird that’s okay- sunset can be just as beautiful. I still might try to talk you into sunrise for your babymoon photos, but the evenings will just get better and better as the temperature drops too!
