Engagement beach photos by Gulf Shores Couples Photographer, Michelle Hatcher

The name of the game this summer is couples beach photos. I’m in my couples/engagement/honeymoon/babymoon era and I’m loving it. It’s keeping my schedule full and my heart happy so I will gladly be a Gulf Shores couples photographer!

I wanted to use this blog to talk about the types of couples sessions I offer since they’re quickly becoming my main type of shoots outside of weddings. When you book a couples session with me, you can pick between a golden hour beach session, or an adventure session.

Skylar and Austin opted for engagement beach photos while they were in town. They didn’t mind waking up early to have the whole beach to themselves! We had leftover pizza (their favorite) & champagne for breakfast before doing a quick outfit change and even going all-the-way in the water lol.

When to plan your couples session

Whether it’s your engagement, honeymoon, baby moon, anniversary or literally just because, we can plan the couples session of your dreams. If you’re looking for beach photography I usually offer those session times based on sunrise and sunset. We’re looking for that warm, golden lighting but still want you to be able to keep your eyes open. There are pros and cons for both times of day- we’ve got cooler temperatures and less crowds at sunrise but have to get started as early as 5:45am in the summer. Evenings allow you to sleep in, gives us some amazing sunsets as a backdrop, but it can be hot and there may still be a lot of people on the beach.

Adventure sessions give us more flexibility, and don’t have to be on the beach! If you’re down to try some funky direct lighting, looking for time for outfit changes, or to document a whole experience together, an adventure session is for you!

Tips to have fun & feel confident on camera

I might seem like a bubbly and outgoing Gulf Shores couples photographer, but I promise in reality- I’m just an extroverted introvert. It’s a blessing and a curse. It means that I am quite awkward if you point a camera at me, and I that know exactly what to do to make you feel at ease being in front of mine.

I ask all of my couples to incorporate something that’s special to them, whether that’s food/cocktails, books, music, or simply being silly together. There’s no pressure here, so find some cute outfits that make you feel like a million bucks, and I’ll force you to do weird things like play a game of tag, jump in the water with your clothes on. It’s okay to feel out of your comfort zone- one of my regular repeat phrases is “no one will know later if that was an awkward laugh.”
